A WOMAN IN A SPIRITUAL WHEELCHAIR

  •
She was a very ambitious woman
trying to climb the spiritual mountain
    in the shortest time possible
as if climbing the corporate ladder
I tried to share with her
    in the spiritual world
    there are no short-cuts
              no fast foods
                       no fast lanes
one has to go slow and steady
              like a turtle
and have patience and endurance and stamina
                                 of a marathon runner
    I shared with her
              one cannot achieve spiritual enlightenment
                       by reading a religious book
or attending a new age workshop
or participating in a nirvana seminar

    It takes
    years of meditating in silence
    and
    decades of soul-searching
to get in touch with one’s essence
    one’s deeper and higher self
    one’s spiritual character
reflecting one’s bright as well as the dark sides
and then accepting rather than judging them
    and also accepting others
with their bright and dark sides
    respectfully and gracefully
    and not judging them harshly
to live in peace with oneself
    and harmony with others
But she was a very ambitious woman
who wanted to climb the spiritual mountain
    in the shortest time possible
as if climbing the corporate ladder
    So she tripped
    and sprained her spiritual ankle
She read many self help books
    and started climbing again
    with new agitation and restlessness
    doing her spiritual work-out
    faster and faster
    She bumped into many others
    who were also rushing
    to reach spiritual orgasm
    in the shortest time possible
    They pushed her
    She came down
    like a fallen angel
    and broke her spiritual leg
Now she is in a spiritual wheel chair
    looking sad and dejected
    unsure of her spiritual future.
